A Home In Heaven
Have you ever asked the question, “I wonder what happens when I die?” It is estimated that over 150,000 people die every day across the world. In a world that is ever changing, the one thing we can be assured of is that just as we were born, we will die. The question then becomes what’s next? There are hundreds of ideas and philosophies that attempt to answer that question. Even among religions there are countless ideas regarding life after death. Yet, what does the Bible really say about how to have eternal life and a home in Heaven? I believe we can answer that question by understanding 5 simple truths.
1. Realize That God Loves You
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
A home in Heaven begins with the knowledge that God loves you and has a plan for your life.
The Bible teaches us that we are all sinners. The word “sin” speaks of any fault, flaw, or imperfection in our character or actions. Our sins separate us from God. God made man in His own image. He gave man the ability to choose right from wrong, and when we choose to sin our sins keep us from God.
3. Acknowledge That Sin Must Be Paid For
“For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23
Wages means payment. The payment of our sin is death and separation from God forever. If we continue in our sin, we shall die without Christ and be separated from God forever. The payment of our sins is not only death, but eternity in hell.
4. Believe The Good News That Christ Paid For Our Sins
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
Jesus Christ loves you so much that he took all of your sins and paid the wages of them on the cross. He paid our sin debt for us. When Jesus Christ died on the cross and arose from the dead, he purchased our freedom from sin. Our hope rests in the fact that He is alive forevermore.
5. We Must Personally Pray And Receive Christ By Faith
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13
Christ has purchased your salvation, now all you must do is accept it. The Bible teaches us that salvation is a free gift, but like any other gift, it must be accepted. If you’ve never accepted Christ’s free gift of salvation, then I encourage you today to bow your head and pray a prayer similar to this….
Lord, I know that I am a sinner. If I died today, I would not go to heaven. Forgive my sin, come into my life and be my Savior. Help me live for you from this day forward. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Everlasting life begins when we receive Christ as our Savior.
